The Federal Reserve’s most recent interest-rate increase brought the effective federal-funds rate to 4.8%, a level not seen since 2007. The rise in the rate, from .08% at the end of 2021, has crushed bond values but is good news for yield-seekers. Right now a six-month Treasury bill yields nearly 5%, and you can lock in a percentage point more than that on 10-year, high-quality corporates.
