Dow Industrials Edge Lower To Start The Week

Dollar Tree surges after report of activist investor; global oil market benchmark falls

U.S. stocks slipped to start the week, with investors parsing how companies might withstand inflation pressures.

The indexes edged higher in early trading, then turned down later in the day and ended slightly lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished down 12.86 points, or less than 0.1%, to 36087.45. The index has now been down for four of the past five trading days. The tech-focused Nasdaq Composite Index edged down 7.11 points, or less than 0.1%, to 15853.85.
