FDA’s first-of-its kind approval of an mRNA seasonal flu vaccine could indicate the agency is revisiting mRNA technology after it had originally blocked the vaccine from review and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had significantly retreated from investing in mRNA research last year. The approval is significant both because of FDA’s reversal and because it could provide a platform for vaccine protection against future pandemic influenzas.
