Not everyone is convinced, however. One doubter is Michael Morris, CTO at Root9B, a Colorado Springs, Colo.-based security services company (which recently joined R-CISC). “These services basically add larger, well-known tech companies into the security mix. The addition of these companies effectively reduces trust in the retailer and shifts risk with data storage and processing to the large tech companies,” he says. “Meanwhile, the consumer really gains no significant increase in security of their information. I would argue that it actually creates additional opportunities for an attacker to take advantage.”
