NEW YORK, NY (September 15, 2014) – root9B’s Director of Emerging Technologies, Matt Weeks, has released technical details on a zero-day exploit in a common software application used by Internet criminals to target and exploit innocent victims.
While this private release published on Weeks’ blog details a technical solution for potential victims to gather information about a cyber attacker, root9B does not advocate that victims execute a “hack-back” strategy. This technique is not part of root9B’s collection of network defense solutions. Instead, root9B focuses on network defense through active adversarial pursuit (HUNT), tool development, and cyber defense training capabilities within the client’s infrastructure.
