Tom Chetrick

Tom Chetrick is a results-focused marketing professional with almost three decades experience in building leadership brands and creating superior marketing support capabilities in the healthcare industry.

From 1998 through 2010, Tom was a vice president at Bristol-Myers Squibb. He built a single center of excellence for marketing support activities to improve operational capabilities and achieve significant cost savings. This accomplishment included creating an e-marketing center of excellence, creating a superior direct marketing infrastructure, building an ad agency that produced annual savings of $50 million, and rebuilding an internal video studio to achieve best-in-class capabilities. Tom also led the company’s external agency management, helped develop an award-winning advertising campaign for the corporate brand, and managed the company’s website and publications.

Prior to this position, he had responsibility for consumer marketing across all Rx brands, which included the highly successful Plavix marketing program and campaigns for other brands such as Pravachol, Glucophage and BuSpar. In the consumer medicines area, he served as the US vice president of marketing, Canada general manager, Japan acting general manager, and vice president of global marketing.

Tom, who received a BS (pharmacy) and MBA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, started his career at Johnson & Johnson in 1982. By 1995, he had become a group product director with accomplishments including assisting in development of the Tylenol marketing plan following the cyanide poisoning incident, developing the launch plan for Splenda, and leading Mylanta from the #4 to #1 position in the antacids category through an award-winning ad campaign.

Tom was a vice president at NCI Consulting from 1995 to 1997, where he consulted on healthcare industry projects for brands such as Zyrtec, Aleve, Lamisil and Propulsid.

Tom now owns his own consulting company, Chetrick Consulting LLC, in West Windsor, NJ. The firm specializes in strategic planning, brand positioning and execution, and agency management best practices.
