Stocks Climb on Strong Retail Earnings

Investors are awaiting minutes from the Federal Reserve’s latest meeting for clues on interest-rate policy

U.S. stocks surged Wednesday after strong earnings reports from retailers eased some fears about slowing economic growth.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 climbed about 1% apiece shortly after the opening bell. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.1%.
